Haliwell Dene Cottage was a scheme undertaken for a client. The brief was to gain Planning Consent to remove an existing flat roof, single storey extension and replace it with two extensions, one single story and one two storey. The cottage is situated in a prominent position when entering Hexham from Corbridge and is in Hexham's conservation area. To this end the scheme had to be treated with care and attention to make sure that we got the massing, the proportions and the finishes right so that the extensions matched the existing dwelling. The proposals were submitted in the form of plans, elevations and proposed site plans. The elevations were computer generated using digital photos of the existing dwelling, taking samples of the existing materials and details to match them into proposed extensions. A number of schemes were put in front of Tynedale Planning department for consideration before the scheme below was agreed on and approval was gained. The dwelling is currently being renovated and should be completed mid 2005.
